Affiliate program
A Pretty Good Life participates in the Amazon Associates Program, the Rakuten Affiliate program, ValueCommerce (used for Yahoo! Shopping and other merchants), and A8.net, and may earn a commission from purchases made through links on this site.
Articles and links that are affiliate links are shown in a way that makes this clear. Rankings and evaluations are not changed based on commission terms.
If the site joins a new affiliate program in the future, that will be stated here at the time, and the relevant links will be marked as such. The site does not present itself as participating in a program it has not actually joined.
How products are chosen
I value what I've actually bought, used and tried myself. Where it helps a reader decide, I also research and compare products and services I haven't used, based on official information and other public sources.
Articles keep these apart so the difference is clear:
- Bought and used: based on my own experience with the product.
- Tried: limited hands-on testing, such as trying a product in a store. I say what I tried.
- Research assessment: for products I haven't used, a summary of specs, prices and terms confirmed from official sources. It doesn't vouch for how a product feels or performs.
I don't write about something I haven't used as if I had, and I don't judge the comfort or durability of an unused product from its specifications alone.
The order of listings and my evaluations are not changed by affiliate payouts or by whether there is an affiliate partnership. Products without a partnership are still shown with an ordinary official link when a comparison needs them. The full editorial approach is on the About page.
Privacy
Any information you send when you get in touch is used only to reply, and for no other purpose.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how it is used and to improve it. Google Analytics may use cookies and similar technology to collect information such as which pages were viewed and when. That information is not used to identify you personally; it is used to analyze how the site is used. How Google handles the information it collects and processes is governed byGoogle's Privacy Policy.
External data transmission
Through the Google Analytics described above, some browsing information is sent to Google. No data is currently sent to any other advertising service. If another external service is introduced in the future, the information sent and the purpose will be added to this page.
The "Helpful" button on articles
The tally for the "Helpful" button at the end of articles is handled using Cloudflare Workers and D1, services provided by Cloudflare, Inc.
The only information this feature stores in the database is the article's slug (an identifier) and a per-article count of how many times "Helpful" was pressed.
In this site's implementation, IP addresses, User-Agent strings, cookies, and other information that would directly identify a person are not stored in the D1 database.
To prevent the same browser from pressing the button more than once, a flag noting that the button was pressed for that article is saved in the browser's localStorage. This localStorage data is not sent to this site's server.
Because this relies on Cloudflare's infrastructure to handle the requests, connection details may be processed on Cloudflare's side as a technical part of that infrastructure.
